| BERNADETTE'S STORY CARDS!! Read about the history of these sweet lovely storycards (and my handmade books) here! They are cards that are little readers, really, with a lovely story or poem inside. Why do I call them cards? Well, because the presentation is more like a card. But it is a small literary treasure, a literary gift. I am thinking they would be lovely unusual novel gifts. But it is just another small handmade book, really, just like my others. But with an extra blank page, where you could write a message to someone inside. These cards will be intermittently available on this page. They will always be interesting and different and beautiful, with some exceptional, original, unpublished writing inside that you may be the first to see! They would be a wonderful gift for someone who has excellent taste and has everything, but wants nothing... Or someone who has nothing and still wants nothing. (But, would love these cards.) Or, for sensitive people, creative people, thinkers, dreamers, lovers, artists... Like you!! (Read more below.) And check back! Maybe more cards coming soon! Here are my cards so far... Hit the links below to purchase these cards, to see the beautiful covers, and a sample In Utero... Twostep... Materials Used for These Cards... Each of these lovely handcrafted storycards is about 4x6 or 4x7 inches, and is made from the repurposed envelopes of my old literary submissions, with all the lovely postal markings to make them authentic. Each card has a family photograph, and will be titled and signed on the front or back. (The point not being that it is my family, but any family, every family! The photo is always closely tied to the text.) Inside, counting each side of a page as a page, there are 4 pages of artfully laid out original prose or poetry, and 4 pages of the colorful liner, where you could write your own note to a friend! Each card will be in a plastic sleeve, with a colorful cardboard backing inserted, to tease and please the eye. (It is very cute this way as a gift! The backing also adds mailing protection.) I have a lot of fun with these. Some of the backings I use are the former covers of my writing journals. Some are the fronts and backs of my favorite cracker boxes. Whatever is lovely is what I will use! I am in love with the concept of repurposing things! Aren't you?! (It makes prices lower too!) So, what are those photographs? When I was first developing my novels, I used to send stories to the lterary journals. I had found so much inspiration in old photos that I started to send those along, my instinct for making little books already taking hold. Well, I stopped sending stories out, because I was able to publish the books! But I still have all those lovely photos. I got good at the color copier at Kinko's! (They got used to seeing me.) I think it is magical, timeless, to illustrate stories with pictures of people. (Your people or mine!!) These, because I made these cards, happen to be mine. I think they also add a lovely cultural historical context that way. I am in love with photography!! I have gazed for many hours at photos of random strangers... Haven't you?!
